Each week during the 2021 season we’ll offer some news, notes, tidbits and opinions from each of the five divisions in the Mid-Penn Conference.
Colonial will take shape this week
It is go time for the top end of the Crazy Colonial Division to become a more crystal clear picture. Undefeated Shippensburg will welcome one-loss Northern to the border of Cumberland and Franklin counties. Neither has lost a Crazy Colonial contest, so first place is on the table. The Polar Bears have allowed 28 or more points twice in five games.
Only one team, Dover, has managed three scores against the Greyhounds. See where this is going? Defense will tell the story of this game. Shippensburg has been surgeon-like all season. Don’t expect that to change. Northern has to produce a special effort to make this a nail-biter in the fourth quarter.
Two tossups on tap
Two other contests are make-or-break games in my book. The winners still have that glimmer of hope and can chase down bigger prizes, while the losers have significantly less on the table to play for going forward. Those games are East Pennsboro at West Perry and Mechanicsburg at Greencastle-Antrim. It’s the Crazy Colonial, so I list both contests as “box of chocolates” games because who knows what is going to happen.
