Zack Bates turned in a stellar performance in Week 5, nearly willing his Newport Buffaloes to the team’s first victory of the season. The Newport fanbase turned out in support of their stud, making him the runaway winner of our Mid-Penn Conference Player of the Week award. Big Spring’s Grant Hall finished as the runner up in fan voting.
In an overtime thriller Bates did all he could to help Newport notch a victory Friday night against Susquenita. He ran for a touchdown, hauled in eight receptions for 109 yards and legged a pair of field goals in a 29-26 double-overtime loss to Susquenita.
