Cumberland Valley’s Galen Witmer had a near career day Friday when the Eagles beat Hempfield in the District 3 Class 6A semifinals.

In the 28-7 win, which sent the Eagles to their second straight District 3 Class 6A championship (Saturday at 6 p.m. in Hershey vs. Manheim Twp.), Witmer rushed 16 times for 115 yards and a score. And fans rewarded him with 36.4 percent of the 354 votes for the Week 12 4th Down Magazine Player of the Week.

Witmer’s yards and carries ranked second and third, respectively, in his career. It was yet another strong day for the Eagles rushing attack, which gobbled up 241 yards on 47 carries in the win.

CV faithful came out strong for the senior fullback/linebacker, with nearly double the votes picked up by second-place Dylan Rabuck, the Williams Valley RB who has been a regular on these polls.

Rabuck garnered 18.4 percent, followed by his QB, Levi Engle, getting 12.7 percent. Middletown RB Brady Fox finished fourth with 11 percent of the vote.
