MECHANICSBURG — Moral victories are not in Billy Furman’s DNA.

Mechanicsburg’s first-year coach had a simple message for his team after a 35-13 loss to Red Land on Friday night at John H. Frederick Field, capping a 3-7 (1-5 Keystone) season. That record is no longer acceptable.

Making the Grade: Cedar Cliff vs. Red Land

Big plays were the order of business Friday night at West Shore Stadium when sister schools Red Land and Cedar Cliff squared off.

The first half featured more than 450 combined total yards of offense and four of the six touchdowns scored covered 41 or more yards.

Trystin Sulich leads Carlisle past Red Land

CARLISLE — Sometimes “just good enough” is, well, just good enough.

And Carlisle football was just good enough Friday night to escape Ken Millen Stadium with a 17-14 victory over visiting Red Land.

Somebody must have made a deal with Mother Nature for the 2017 version of Week Zero. The opening night of the season was blissfully cool and comfortable for late August.

And a team under stress, the Camp Hill Lions, could not hold up under the heat Palmyra brought in the fourth quarter at Buck Swank.

Bishop McDevitt blanks Red Land, 27-0 to spoil Patriots' home opener

Red Land made its intentions clear at the outset of Friday’s contest with Bishop McDevitt.

The Patriots spent the game’s opening drive in an unbalanced formation with just a single wideout, an effort at replicating the power-football formula that had garnered them an upset win in the teams’ previous meeting.
