Joseph Bruno takes two kickoffs for TDs, Mechanicsburg wins second straight in thriller over Northern

DILLSBURG — Mechanicsburg spent 10 minutes practicing the victory formation on Thursday, senior Dylan Smith said, and the Wildcats got to use it.

In a heart-pounding, nerve-wracking, come-from-behind win, Mechanicsburg edged Northern 33-30 on a 43-yard touchdown pass with 1:02 to play to move to 2-1 and get back above .500 for the first time in this generation of players’ careers.

“It’s the time of our life,” Smith said.

“This is a huge improvement from last year,” said Will Hoover, who had the game-sealing interception inside a minute to play.

If the Wildcats didn't quite know how to celebrate a win last week, they certainly did this time around. Hoover's interception, an excellent bobbling grab over the top of the intended receiver, started it off even though the clock still had more than 30 ticks left. Mechanicsburg buzzed and bounced on the sidelines, then exploded for joy as the scoreboard showed all zeros in front of a marching band and well-traveled fan section to the school's fight song.
