Anthony Rose approved as Mechanicsburg football coach, wants to make Wildcats 'hard-nosed' again

Anthony Rose has been waiting for this moment a long time.

The 41-year-old North Carolina native was approved by the Mechanicsburg school board Tuesday as the new varsity football coach, finally giving Rose the title he had long been waiting for.

Mechanicsburg’s second football coaching search in as many years could be over in just two months.

Pending school board approval Tuesday night, Anthony Rose is set to be named the Wildcats new coach, replacing Billy Furman after just one season.

MECHANICSBURG — Moral victories are not in Billy Furman’s DNA.

Mechanicsburg’s first-year coach had a simple message for his team after a 35-13 loss to Red Land on Friday night at John H. Frederick Field, capping a 3-7 (1-5 Keystone) season. That record is no longer acceptable.

Susquehanna Twp. football might be young, and the Indians might still be a year away from serious playoff contention, but Friday night’s 40-21 thrashing of Mid-Penn Keystone playmate Mechanicsburg showed the ‘Hanna Tribe remains an imposing midstate program.
