Running backs are owning the start of the football season, especially in central Pennsylvania.

A week after Halifax's Jay Zerby claimed the honors, Cumberland Valley's Jake Palmer is our Week 1 Player of the Week.

The 5-foot-9 senior was a big reason why the Eagles were able to pull off a 21-14 comeback victory over visiting Coatesville on Friday. Palmer punched in the game-winning touchdown with three seconds to play, salvaging a slow CV start. He finished with 134 yards on 23 carries and all three of the Eagles' TDs. They all came in the second half, as did 122 of his yards.

The scores came on runs of 4, 31 and 10 yards.

Palmer won 36.6 percent of the vote, beating out two other backs in the process. Williams Valley's Dylan Rabuck claimed 21.9 percent of the vote and East Pennsboro's Onasis Neely gathered 20.4 percent.

Last year, Palmer ran for 774 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 5.9 yards a touch.
