Player of the Week: Middletown defensive back Antonio Bryant

05 December 2018

4th Down Staff:

This deep into the postseason, it's rare that a new face claims our Player of the Week. Usually it's the known studs that stay at the top of the totem pole.

Well, meet Middletown defensive back Antonio Bryant, who is the Week 14 POTW after a stellar PIAA Class 3A semifinal performance. Bryant had 10 tackles and three pass break-ups in the Blue Raiders' 35-21 beating of Scranton Prep, a game that was 28-0 early and never got particularly close. Bryant helped a defense that simply stifled Prep last week, sending the Raiders back to the state championship in the process.
Middletown faces Aliquippa in Saturday's state title game.
Bryant claimed 159 of the 412 votes cast (38.6 percent) on a week when only Raiders and Harrisburg Cougars were among our nominees. Second was teammate Jose Lopez (26.2 percent) and third was Lopez's running mate, Richie Sykes (16.5).
